The book argues that growth changed its object through three inversions: the discovery line, where answer engines read a firm's substance and deliver the answer without the visit; the agent as user; and retention measured as outcome rather than return visits.
From there it builds five loops (answer, agent, product, residue, distribution), replaces six dead metrics with six outcome instruments, and names the role that owns them: an engineer who builds loops, not a growth hacker who runs campaigns.
One chapter per loop. The answer loop wins the citation: publish substance a machine cannot generate, structured for a machine reader.
Citation share, agent conversion, time-to-magic, outcome retention, cost per accepted outcome and net revenue retention replace six proxies that kept moving after value stopped.
Agents now generate and run variants. The defence: outcome metrics the loop cannot inflate, and a held-out counterfactual the experiment cannot touch.
